As the 49ers coaches and players busy themselves with the early start to OTA's (mostly workouts and meetings), Trent Baalke and his scouts will bring in top QB prospects Jared Goff and Carson Wentz for a "go see" at 49ers facilities in Santa Clara. Baalke has not been shy about looking at amateur QB's but he's certainly been so about drafting them (with only Colin Kaepernick and BJ Daniels on his list).

It's a foregone conclusion though that the team will be drafting a passer this year, because it would be downright criminal if they didn't, given the uncertainty the team has at the position. The big question though is how early they will get it done. Here is where I personally think Chip Kelly will have a big say. I think the answer depends greatly on how confident Chip is in what he can accomplish with either Kap or Blaine Gabbert.

If he can rehabilitate Kap then I think they can go with a high upside, raw talent who can sit for two or three seasons to learn the offense. If Gabbert goes to the top of the depth chart, then I think they target either Goff or Wentz, who could sit for a year then take over next year. Blaine then could be resigned to backup or compete with the draftee for the starter role. But of course, none of us really know what is in Baalke's head and he's pulled quite a few surprises in previous drafts.
