The San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos have been fairly silent the last two weeks, and Colin Kaepernick trade discussions seem to have stalled out. The hang-up is believed to be $4.9 million of Kaepernick's 2016 base salary, although Mindi Bach reported the Broncos wanted him taking pay cuts in 2016 and 2017.
One former general manager thinks the situation has already been resolved to some extent. Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Mark Dominik thinks the deal is done for the most part, and is just waiting on the 49ers drafting a quarterback later this month.
I think Kaepernick to Broncos done.Hinges on SF drafting QB. Reason-u never let player visit w/club w/out trade/contract already figured out

Dominik appears to essentially be saying the salary issue is not actually an issue. I tweeted at him to get further thoughts on that side of things, but he did not reply. All indications are that the salary is in fact still an issue. Of course, I suppose one possibility is that a deal is done, but the 49ers want to maintain some semblance of leverage on their No. 7 pick. I don't buy that, but anything's possible.
I have predicted Friday, April 29 for a Kaepernick trade. If the 49ers draft a quarterback that Thursday, maybe it actually does happen. I still don't see a first round quarterback happening, but maybe they surprise me.
