Virtually every mock draft over the past three months took a big hit on Thursday when the Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams announced a trade for the No. 1 pick. Props to Cris Collinsworth for mocking a Titans-Rams trade back on March 15. I'm sure others might have considered it if they included mocks, but Collinsworth is one of the few to actually include it. I'm sure there's a fantastic prize waiting for him.
It is possible we see other trades, but with this deal out of the way, mock drafts are likely going to settle into a fairly regular pattern in the top seven. Laremy Tunsil, Joey Bosa, Jalen Ramsey, Myles Jack, and DeForest Buckner are likely going to be fairly regular members of picks three through seven for the next two weeks.
Friend of the site Matt Miller put together a new 2016 NFL mock draft Thursday afternoon, and he has the 49ers getting Buckner from that group. Here's what Miller had to say about the selection:
The 49ers miss out on the top two quarterbacks but land a blue-chip defensive lineman. It's Oregon Ducks in back-to-back first rounds for the Niners, but new head coach Chip Kelly won't mind that.
We'll update the mock draft database later this weekend, and see how the re-shuffle impacts, but it's safe to say those five will be shuffling around. The big questions now revolve around whether or not Cleveland trades down, and what happens with Tunsil. We could see Tunsil slip a few spots if the Chargers are happy at tackle. If that happens, maybe somebody else trades up to get him. Although 3-7 spots in mock drafts will be fairly similar the next two weeks, a lot could go down two Thursdays from now.
