Boy, I tell ya, waking up yesterday to the Rams trade was the strangest thing to wake up to. Even stranger is how much I like it as a San Francisco 49ers fan. Don't get me wrong, it was an insanely crazy trade and I'm a bit miffed to know the chances of the 49ers getting a quarterback at 7 are gone (unless they really want to reach for one). At the same time, Goff and Wentz weren't exactly sure things and the Rams won't be drafting much for awhile now. This trade is one that could have dire consequences regardless if their quarterback does well or not (yes, they are picking a QB). It also seems like the right call. The Rams don't have a QB. And if you're moving to Los Angeles and trying to sell tickets, you might need a signal caller to put some butts in the seats.
Still, if Wentz or Goff doesn't pan out, this could bury the Rams for a few years, which is what I love about this trade. Even if one of those guys is the next Kurt Warner, The Rams have to be mighty comfortable with their current, quarterback-less roster to risk the real estate they gave up to get a quarterback. They clearly want to try and make a splash immediately, and given how these all-in trades have a knack of not working out, I think as a Niner fan, watching it all blow up would give me five minutes of enjoyment. Totally worth that.
