Cowboys worked out Jared Goff in Berkeley with Jerry Jones, Jason Garrett on hand

The Cowboys have been busy the past two months. Jared Goff is the ninth to work out or hold a private visit with the team.

The Dallas Cowboys front office took a weekend trip to the Bay Area! Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett were among those on hand in Berkeley to conduct a private workout with Cal quarterback Jared Goff. Peter King reported the workout, and said that it sounded like Jerry Jones "loved what he saw."

In early March, NFL analyst Gil Brandt said Jerry Jones told him the Cowboys would not select a quarterback with the No. 4 pick. I was surprised he would say something like that, but anything said leading up to the draft is going to be taken with a grain of salt.

The Cowboys very well might not select a quarterback in the first round, but they do need to find a long-term option to develop behind Tony Romo. And they are doing extensive work learning about the quarterbacks. Aside from the Goff workout, they have also conducted a private workout with Carson Wentz. Many analysts expect the two prospects to go 1-2, but anything is possible once the Rams select their quarterback of choice.

The Cowboys have worked out or hosted a visit with nine quarterbacks. That list includes:

Brandon Allen
Jacoby Brissett
Connor Cook
Jared Goff
Christian Hackenberg
Cardale Jones
Paxton Lynch
Dak Prescott
Carson Wentz

They have also interacted with Vernon Adams and Trevone Boykin this offseason.

The Cowboys very well could pass on a QB this year, but I just don't see that happening. I don't see them drafting a quarterback in the first round, but I think they select one at some point later this month.
