The San Francisco 49ers are adding a slightly notable official pre-draft visit to the list. Matt Maiocco is reporting the team is hosting Cal quarterback Jared Goff on Monday. The 49ers held a local Pro Day last Wednesday, but Goff was not present as he was visiting other teams throughout the week.
According to Tony Pauline's various reports, Goff has interacted with nine NFL teams, and had visits or private workouts with seven teams. Those seven include the 49ers, Browns, Cowboys, Eagles, Jets, Rams, and Saints. He also met with the Bills and Texans at the NFL Combine.
The Los Angeles Rams move up to the No. 1 pick means Jared Goff and Carson Wentz stand a good chance of going first and second in the 2016 NFL Draft (not necessarily in that order). However, it is entirely possible one of them slips a little bit. I think the odds are not great for that to happen, but it is certainly possible. Some notable questions that remain are:
1. Will the Browns take a quarterback, another player, or trade back?
2. Will the Cowboys draft a QB in the first round?
3. Will someone move ahead of the 49ers draft a quarterback?
The 49ers have been plenty active looking at quarterbacks the last few months. They have had interactions with Goff, Wentz, Vernon Adams, Connor Cook, Kevin Hogan, Joe Licata, Paxton Lynch, and Dak Prescott. I think most of us would be surprised if they did not come away with at least one quarterback. I would be surprised if it was Goff or Wentz, but maybe we get a surprise a week from Thursday.
