The San Francisco 49ers hold three high picks over the first two days of the 2016 NFL Draft, picking No. 7 overall, No. 6 in the second round, and No. 5 in the third round. The 49ers could decide to climb into a higher round with the latter two picks, but even if they pick at those spots, they can get some quality talent.
On Monday, NFL Network ran their 49ers War Room segment on Path to the Draft. You can view the segment here, but I figured I would pull out some of the pertinent information.
The segment put together two possible scenarios for the 49ers first three picks. The first scenario went with two offensive players and one defensive player. The second scenario went two defense and one offense. Here are the picks presented:
1. OT Ronnie Stanley, CB Xavien Howard, WR Sterling Shepard
2. DT DeForest Buckner, OG Cody Whitehair, ILB Nick Vigil
Projecting specific players is never an easy task, but they would certainly address some notable concerns for the 49ers. All six positions selected are areas of need. Opinions will vary significantly, but the positions point to needs. For purposes of mock drafts, that's a good start.
That being said, I would be surprised if we did not see the 49ers trade at least one of those first three picks. I don't know whether it will be moving up from the second or third round, or moving down from any one of the picks, but I think we see a trade.
