49ers mock draft: What do you make of these 5 picks?

New, comments

This mock draft adds some balance on both sides of the ball. What do you make of it?

The San Francisco 49ers have plenty of draft picks later this month, with 12 total following four comp picks added to the haul. Seven of the 12 picks are in the fifth and sixth rounds, but there is still plenty to work with the first four rounds. The 49ers hold their own pick in each of the first four rounds, along with a fourth round comp pick. Trent Baalke is going to have to do some serious damage in those early rounds.

Friend of the site Matt Miller recently sat down with the 49ers.com crew to discuss the team's first four rounds. He put together a mock draft focusing just on the 49ers five picks. After that seventh pick, things can get particularly crazy, so we take the specific names with a certain grain of salt. I think there is more value considering the positions in question, since we have little idea of the detailed aspects of the 49ers draft board.

Here is what Matt put together with the 49ers first five picks:

1 (7). DeForest Buckner, DE, Oregon
2 (37). Josh Garnett, OG, Stanford
3 (68). Charone Peake, WR, Clemson
4 (105). Joe Haeg, OT, North Dakota State
4 (133). Nick Kwiatkowski, ILB, West Virginia

That certainly hits on some positions of need. The 49ers need defensive line help, and they need a long-term answer at inside linebacker next to NaVorro Bowman. The wide receiver corps has Torrey Smith and then a bunch of questions, so a receiver makes a lot of sense. The offensive line dealt with a ton of turnover, and needs to figure out some long-term options, particularly on the interior of the line.

If this was the 49ers haul through four rounds, what would you make of it? You can specify based on players, but also what do you think of the positions addressed. Miller has been mocking Jared Goff to the 49ers for some time, so this is a change. It would be interesting to see where he would go QB if this was how the 49ers draft got started.
