Golden Nuggets: Overall #2 Pick Trade Possibilities?

There are 8 days left to the 2016 NFL Draft and the situation is in constant motion for the 49ers. They continue to hold the #7 overall pick, but there is still time for that to change. There is some rumbling that the 49ers could be in talks for the Cleveland Browns #2 pick. The 49ers make sense as a team Cleveland would like to deal with just for the fact that the 49ers hold the most picks in the draft. If they trade #2, the Browns would be looking for a major haul of draft picks in exchange.

The biggest issues stopping the 49ers from trading for the #2 pick are Trent Baalke and the need for talent. Trent Baalke likes to stack draft picks. Every draft, he maneuvers to gather more draft picks. Trading up would be against his normal tendencies. He has only moved up in the draft in 2010 and 2013. Also, Trent has selected QBs twice in the draft and neither have been in the 1st round. If he traded up to #2, it almost guarantees a QB will be taken.

The 49ers are also in need of a lot of talent. Trading up requires them losing valuable draft picks and the team isn't really in the position to lose those picks. If this team was a missing player or 2 from a good team, then they could trade picks to grab that player to put them over the top. The 49ers are not in that position. They have holes in most position groups and need all 12 picks to add the depth to the roster.

It will be very surprising if Trent Baalke does trade up to that #2 pick. If anything, it seems much more likely that he trades back from #7 to grab more picks.
