49ers met with running back Kenneth Dixon for official pre-draft visit

Dixon put up huge numbers in his college career. Can he build on that in the NFL?

The San Francisco 49ers wrapped up their pre-draft visits this week, and we can add one more name to the list. The team hosted Louisiana Tech running back Kenneth Dixon on an official visit, according to Eric Branch and other reports. He is the second running back the team has met with, at least according to reports. The team also either worked out or hosted Alabama running back Kenyan Drake.

Dixon has been a touchdown machine throughout his career. He set an NCAA freshman record with 27 rushing touchdowns in 2012. He surpassed 1,000 rushing yards three of his four seasons, and finished with 72 rushing touchdowns. He also had 87 receptions for 969 yards. He stepped up in the passing game his final two seasons, with 63 of the receptions and 849 of the yards coming during that stretch.

CBS Sports projects Dixon as a potential second round pick. They worry about his ability to add bulk to his frame, but according to Branch's article, he has put on seven pounds since the Combine, and is now at 222. He is not a speedy back, but scouting reports like his vision, and footwork in maneuvering past blockers. Ball security will be something to watch with him early on.
