The 2016 NFL Draft is hours away, and we'll finally get to see how accurate or inaccurate mock drafts are with regard to the San Francisco 49ers pick at No. 7. ESPN's Todd McShay released his final 2016 NFL mock draft on Thursday, and he once again has the 49ers selecting Oregon defensive tackle DeForest Buckner.
The pick is following a fairly common refrain that has built over the last three months. In our mock draft database, Buckner is the most frequent pick. In 45 mock drafts, 17 have the 49ers selecting Buckner (pending Cam Inman's mock dropping in a bit). Ronnie Stanley shows up second with 11 of the 45 mocks selecting him.
Paxton Lynch and Myles Jack are the next most frequently picked players with four apiece. Lynch has been climbing the boards ever since the Rams and Eagles moved into the top two spots. I don't know if it's an over-compensation, or something that could legitimately happen, but it's certainly something. I think the 49ers don't take a quarterback in the first round, or at least don't take one with pick No. 7. The more likely option in my mind is that they trade up from the second round into the first to grab a quarterback.
