In a move that many expected if things fell the right way, the San Francisco 49ers drafted DeForest Buckner with the seventh pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. They had been connected to Buckner, but there were rumblings the San Diego Chargers or Baltimore Ravens might grab him. The Chargers ended up drafting Joey Bosa, and the Ravens went with Ronnie Stanley, leaving Buckner there for the 49ers.
A lot of people like the pick, but there are plenty of folks that had other preferences. The team has a variety of needs, and so some would have preferred offensive line, or other positions. And so, with that in mind, it's time to rate the pick. Buckner has been a 49er for less than an hour, but that doesn't mean we can't overreact to the pick. Nobody is going to hold it against you a year from now. Heck, nobody will hold it against you next week.
