49ers draft pick Rashard Robinson slipped in draft due to off-field concerns

There appears to be no doubt about Rashard Robinson's talent level, but there are plenty of other questions.

The San Francisco 49ers have now drafted two cornerbacks this year that slipped for various reasons. Will Redmond slipped due to a torn ACL suffered last October. Fourth round pick Rashard Robinson slipped due to off-field concerns. He was arrested in June of 2015 and charged with unauthorized entry in connection with a theft from the apartment of one of his former teammates.

He has been suspended for failed drug tests, dealt with academic eligibility issues, and was suspended last November indefinitely, which led to his decision to enter the 2016 NFL Draft. He has not played since the 2014 season. Suffice to say, this is a gamble. And given that Chip Kelly has focused on players more on the straight and narrow, it will be interesting to see how this one plays out.

The NFL.com profile linked above included this quotation from "a former SEC defensive coach". It certainly says something:

"I'm not sure he's a bad kid, but I know he hates school. He's really tough -- typical south Florida kid. You know what you get. The interviews will work themselves out for better or worse, but you keep things simple for him and let him chase one guy around the field all day. He's really good at that."

He's loaded with red flags to go along with serious talent. This will be something, that's for sure.
