49ers to host Georgia WR Malcolm Mitchell for pre-draft visit

Mitchell tore his ACL in 2013 celebrating a Todd Gurley touchdown. Trent Baalke's spidey sense is tingling.

The San Francisco 49ers have checked in on several receivers over the past month leading up to the 2016 NFL Draft, and they are adding one more to the mix. Georgia wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell is set to visit with the 49ers, according to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson. Mitchell also has official visits with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles.

Mitchell is coming off a 2015 season in which he caught 58 passes for 865 yards and four touchdowns. For his career, Mitchell has 174 catches for 2,350 yards and 16 touchdowns. He tore his ACL in the 2013 season opener, costing him the rest of the season. The injury actually happened while celebrating a Todd Gurley touchdown. He returned for camp in 2014, but tore some cartilage in August. He returned to play eight games, and then playing all 13 games in 2015. It's safe to say the alarm in Trent Baalke's head is going off!

CBSSports.com projects Mitchell as a potential fourth round pick. The knee injuries will be a concern for many, and while they are in the past, we'll see if Trent Baalke remains interested. Scouting reports point to a player who can locate the ball well, and run good routes, but is not as fast one would hope. He did run a 4.45 40, but I've seen references to "more quick than fast", and "not a burner."
