Golden Nuggets: Number Game

New, comments

The 49ers rookies were given temporary jersey numbers for the offseason program. A few players will wear duplicate numbers due to the team's roster having 90 players and 12 numbers having been retired. Once the roster cuts are made, the players will get their permanent numbers.

The team's 1st pick, DE DeForest Buckner will wear #99. While he is wearing Aldon Smith's old number during the offseason program, he will be tasked to make an impact for the defense just like Aldon did in the regular season. The other DL drafted, Ronald Blair, will wear #98. He will asked to provide good depth. In the secondary, Will Redmond was given #23, Prince Charles Iworah was given #30, and Rashard Robinson will wear #33. The CB competition should be fierce given the fact that the team does not have an automatic starter.

The team's 2nd pick, OL Joshua Garnett, will wear #65. Joining him on the line are Fahn Cooper who will wear #64 and John Theus who will wear #78. They will help shore up the worst unit on the team last season. The competition in the trenches will be good to see. The rookies have legitimate shots at getting a starting spot. The remaining rookies drafted are QB Jeff Driskell wearing #6, RB Kelvin Taylor wearing #23, and WR Aaron Burbridge wearing #13.
