Sunday evening open thread: Reset the counter, and unrelated, happy birthday to Frank Gore

New, comments

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. I thought we might make it through a full 49ers offseason without a retirement, but I guess we'll have to wait until next year. Jarryd Hayne's retirement was surprising, but it's not quite like what we saw last year with the caliber of players deciding to call it quits. It's not nearly as painful, but still kind of a pain in the butt.

On a lighter note, Saturday marked Frank Gore's 33rd birthday. He is coming off a first season with the Indianapolis Colts that did not go quite as planned. He had 260 rushes for 967 yards, which was the first time he has not rushed for 1,000 yards in a full 16-game slate. He rushed for 853 yards in 2010, during which he missed five games due to a hip injury. In his rookie season, he rushed for 608 yards in 14 games as Kevan Barlow's backup. The Colts struggled to an 8-8 record, and will look to bounce back in 2016.

Gore is signed through the 2017 season, and we continue to wish him all the best as he continues to climb the record books. He is No. 15 right now with 12,040 yards. Here are the names he trails by less than 1,000 yards.

14. Thurman Thomas - 12,074
13. Franco Harris - 12,120
12. Marcus Allen - 12,243
11. Edgerrin James - 12,246
10. Marshall Faulk - 12,279
9. Jim Brown - 12,312

Have a good Sunday, hopefully Frank Gore enjoyed his birthday weekend, and hopefully that's the end of the 49ers retirements for the offseason. Fingers crossed!
