Chip Kelly on Darren Sproles: 'I've had nobody call me from Philadelphia since December.'

New, comments

His answer did not really clarify anything.

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly hearing from teams about running back Darren Sproles, and naturally that led to a question for Chip Kelly at his press conference today. Ian Rapoport had said the Eagles got some calls during the draft, and the situation was being sorted out while Sproles remains away from OTAs. Our own Jennifer Lee Chan asked Kelly about the rumors, and Kelly gave this answer.

"I've had nobody call me from Philadelphia since December."

There was a laugh with that given how things ended in Philly. It is also worth noting that this does not really clarify the 49ers position on Sproles. Trent Baalke would be the person who handles personnel additions. He would very likely talk with Kelly about adding Sproles, but any calls would likely be between Baalke and Eagles GM Howie Roseman.

The 49ers may end up doing nothing with this, and Sproles stays in Philly or goes somewhere else. However, we can always read into comments like Kelly's pretty easily. I can't imagine he ever says much of anything without some kind of purpose in mind.
