I have to admit it was rather funny today reading Jed York's response to Tim Kawakami's dinner woes. Not that it's not newsworthy or not (he has every right to defend himself), it's that I just wonder why I care. On the surface this is just another dude hosing another dude for the check. One guy who said, "Yo, can I bring my wife?" after the other guy invited a few buddies who are acquaintances with his dinner pal. We've all been there, and the person who brings their significant other and then proceeds to mooch usually isn't invited back out with this group again.
But this is Jed York. I'm not saying I believe it or don't believe it, but I am saying it's hilarious. Check-gate so far has been the hallmark of my year. I just hope, since I oddly have interest in this, we get some sort of epilogue. Maybe Kawakami invites York out to breakfast and it's just a matter of who pays and who tips, then an argument over how good the service was and how much to tip the server. I don't know, just don't stop now. This is something that could continue and I'd be OK with it.
