After listening to Eric Reid's press conference, I came away with two things: dude needs to show up big this season so we know he's not regressing and the San Francisco 49ers need to sign him sooner rather than later.
We all know last year he wasn't at his best, but who was, really? With that coaching staff, no one could bring the best out of anyone. The year before that (his sophomore season) wasn't as impressive as his rookie season, but it was at the very least solid.
Reid has been absolutely stand-up to the media and off the field, which is worth consideration. I've said we don't know any of these guys, truly, but Reid seems to have that 'it' that you want him talking to reporters and setting examples off the field, especially as a veteran. I think when you've had so many character issues with this team, you might as well offer a contract to the guy who you trust isn't going to embarrass you. He may not be elite, but he's been serviceable, and he's only going to get more expensive once a competent coaching staff puts him in a position to succeed. All Reid has to do is have a decent season and his price will be huge.
You've got the character and he's not terrible. Roll the dice and give him his money.
