San Francisco 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman turns 28 today, so we might as well wish him a happy birthday!
It's been a heck of a career for Bowman, and hopefully there are still quite a few years left. Through his first six seasons, he's had numerous accomplishments, and plenty of highlights. So why not celebrate arguably the biggest highlight of his career? The play in the 2014 NFC title game might be the most notable given his knee injury, but this play the previous month against the Atlanta Falcons will go down as one of his best.
The Pick at the Stick came in the 49ers final game ever at Candlestick Park. It was a game in which the 49ers were potentially looking at overtime or an ugly last second loss. The 49ers had taken a 27-17 lead in a wild fourth quarter. The Falcons scored a touchdown with 2:14 to go, cutting the lead to three. The Falcons then recovered an onside kick and picked up 20 yards on two plays to get to the 49ers 10-yard line. They were in a no-huddle and on the next play, we had this.
There was actually a lot to this play behind Bowman. Eric Reid blitzed, and Tramaine Brock had the pass break-up. It was quite the "team" play. Whatever the case, hopefully we have many more crazy highlights this year and beyond, but for today, this will do. Happy birthday, NaVorro!
