I was going to try my best to play devil's advocate this morning for the much anticipated eventual release of Jordan Devey, but there simply isn't enough English for me to craft a compelling argument. Devey was a poor offensive tackle guard and the length that he held that starting job was an indictment of the coaching staff's incompetence. The worst part was fear of this happening all over again and Devey somehow goes into the O-line for whatever crazy reason. I don't want to say it won't happen since we at the very least have a competant coaching staff, but given this team, I won't put it past them.

First you make a trade. A camp body(Asante Cleveland) for a supposed camp body (Devey), then the camp body somehow winds up in the starting lineup due to injuries, talent and whatever else is the 49ers' reasoning. And despite the fact he graded poorly his rookie season, and is taking an even worse nosedive on his current team, you keep him in. And while this is going on, Andrew Tiller is tearing it up on the practice squad. I don't know if that's Trent Baalke's doing or the Tomsula regime's incompetence showing itself in the best way, but there was really no reason for that person to be on the roster, let alone starting once Tiller and the rest of the line came off injury/the practice squad and showed promise.

So yeah. There was no way I could play devil's advocate on this guy. Maybe the coaching was horrendous and he failed with that? Nah, Tiller came in and did much, much better. Devey was just bad, and he needed to go. Sorry someone lost their job, but happy he won't be part of any rotations or whatever ways Trent Baalke may make the O-line.
