Golden Nuggets: Colin’s Most Important Camp

Tuesday, June 14th, 2016 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from the Internet

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

This may be the most important offseason for QB Colin Kaepernick. This offseason and the current upcoming season, Colin will be asked a lot about his happiness in staying in San Francisco and about his rumored failed trade request. He will likely say all the right things. He is working his way back into football shape after dealing with his injuries and surgeries.

While working his back to pre-injury form, Colin will need to learn Chip Kelly’s offense. The last couple of years, the quarterbacks under Chip Kelly have performed fairly well. Colin looks like a perfect fit in Chip’s system with his athletic ability. Chip was always rumored to be interested in acquiring Colin while he was a head coach on the Eagles. Colin will be looking to have a bounce back year to prove that his current contract is not a bad deal. Standing in his way is his backup last season, Blaine Gabbert.

Blaine Gabbert is currently taking all the 1st team offense reps while Colin was only able to work in individual drills. Colin is expected to be cleared to participate in full drills when training camp opens in late July. He will be behind Blaine as far as knowledge on Chip’s playbook, but it seems that Chip is very interested to see what Colin can do in his offense. Colin will be given every opportunity to compete with Blaine. This is a very important training camp coming up for Colin Kaepernick.
