The San Francisco 49ers will continue the trend of conducting joint practices in advance of preseason games. Chip Kelly said on Tuesday that the team will hold joint practices with the Houston Texans in advance of their Week 1 preseason game at Levi's Stadium, and with the Denver Broncos in advance of their Week 2 preseason game at Sports Authority Field in Denver.
The 49ers and Broncos held joint practices in Denver last season before their Week 3 preseason matchup. The year before, the 49ers held joint practices with the Baltimore Ravens in Maryland. The 49ers frequently held joint practices with the Oakland Raiders, but those have not happened the last few years.
Joint practices are a nice way to shake things up during the preseason, and get a different look in practice. Veterans sometimes are not fans of the extended road trips for joint practices away from home. But there is some value to it, and hopefully they can gain a little something from these joint sessions.
