The San Francisco 49ers return for training camp at the end of this month, and that will get us closer to some real football. As the 49ers get going, college football training camps will be getting started a week or so later. We’ll be back in September with more coverage of college prospects, but the approaching camp brings something else interesting, Heisman Trophy odds!
Last month, our friends at Odds Shark posted the latest 2016 Heisman Trophy odds. Winning a Heisman Trophy does not guarantee NFL success, but it does give us some big names to keep an eye on during the upcoming season. The Odds Shark odds include one senior (Tennessee QB Joshua Hobbs), and two sophomores (UCLA QB Josh Rosen, Alabama WR Calvin Ridley), with the rest in some form of junior status (true junior or redshirt junior). It’s possible that might not be 100 percent accurate, as I did a fairly modest Google search to clarify that information. But if that holds up, that means all but two of the players listed below could declare for the 2017 NFL Draft.
Here are the full odds. There’s been plenty of chatter about Clemson QB DeShaun Watson, and some folks have brought up Miami QB Brad Kaaya. Of course, odds are also pretty decent that someone not on this list ends up as one of the players invited to New York as a finalist.
Deshaun Watson (QB Clemson): +350
Leonard Fournette (RB LSU): +400
Christian McCaffrey (RB Stanford): +500
JT Barrett (QB Ohio State): +1000
Chad Kelly (QB Ole Miss): +1200
Dalvin Cook (RB Florida State): +1200
Baker Mayfield (QB Oklahoma): +1200
Nick Chubb (RB Georgia): +1400
*Josh Rosen (QB UCLA): +1600
Royce Freeman (RB Oregon): +2000
Samaje Perine (RB Oklahoma): +2000
*Calvin Ridley (WR Alabama): +2500
Joshua Dobbs (QB Tennessee): +2500
Brad Kaaya (QB Miami): +3300
Patrick Mahomes (QB Texas Tech): +3300
