The San Francisco 49ers veterans report for training camp two weeks from today. We had some bad news yesterday with word of Aaron Lynch’s suspension, but hopefully we can get through the next two weeks without any other headaches.
Without much else going on, I figured we could close out the day with an open thread. And why not open it with some great news from Thursday. Nintendo announced that they will release a miniature version of the original NES on November 11. It will fit in your hand, and for $59.99 you get 30 games and one of the old school controllers. You can purchase a second controller for $9.99.
The games will be pre-loaded, and while this means we won’t have to deal with 30 game cartridges, it also means new games won’t be added to it. They did a really good job with some of the games, including the first four Mario Bros. games, two Castlevania games, Tecmo Bowl, and the generic Mike Tyson’s Punchout game. One huge miss is not including Blades of Steel. That is one of the great games from the original NES, and I’m really surprised it was not included. I would have also liked to see Baseball Stars, but I realize that’s not quite on the level of some of these classics.
Are you going to get the NES Classic? I’m almost certain I’ll get it. Here’s the full list of games pre-loaded on the system. If you’re interested, The Ringer put together a power ranking of the games.
