The Arizona Cardinals are looking to boost their secondary depth, and they are bringing in a name from the San Francisco 49ers’ past for a visit. Adam Schefter is reporting the Cardinals will meet with Chris Culliver next week. This news comes following their signing of former first round pick Mike Jenkins.
Culliver tore his ACL and MCL last November with Washington, and was released after the team signed Josh Norman to a huge deal, and then drafted Kendall Fuller in the third round of this year’s draft. He became expendable, in part because the guarantees in his contract were voided by a one-game personal conduct suspension.
I don’t know what they have to pay him during his injury recovery, but a November ACL/MCL tear could make it difficult for Culliver to return by the starting of training camp. His injury came in late November, so he did have a couple months on the timetable we saw with NaVorro Bowman back in 2014. My guess is Culliver probably does not sign with the Cardinals yet, and this is about updating them on the status of his knee. If they do sign him, I imagine he would start training camp on the PUP list while he rehabs his knee.
