Good Morning! Lot of quarterback news in the NFL yesterday. For starters, Ryan Fitzpatrick is officially off the QB market (signing with the New York Jets) while Nick Foles is officially on.
There's a lot of comments/questions asking if the San Francisco 49ers should sign Foles. Um, no. For several reasons. The most being they already have their QB 1 and 2 figured out. Say what you want about Colin Kaepernick and Blaine Gabbert, at this point they probably have a bit more value than Nick Foles. While Foles was very good in Chip Kelly's offense, let's not forget it was Chip Kelly who shipped him out to the Rams. And at the Rams...well Foles wasn't exactly what he was in Philly.
Plus the 49ers have Jeff Driskel, who very well could be a solid backup if not a starting QB in this league if he gets a few seasons of development. The 49ers have drafted backup after backup after backup and none of them have managed to stick around, Driskel seems like a guy that could break that trend. We'll see, but bringing Foles in (considering he made the 53) almost wastes the Driskel pick. The 49ers don't need Foles.
