They said Friday evening Joshua Garnett would be signed and sure enough, the last San Francisco 49ers rookie to sign their rookie deal is in the books. Garnett signed a deal that is close to what Fooch outlined earlier totaling $9.25 million. The 49ers confirmed the signing shortly after many beat writers said it was a done deal.
Even when he wasn’t signed, Garnett was definitely not slacking. When he was barred from practicing with the team per NFL rules (due to having not graduated), he spent time on the Stanford field getting his body ready for the Chip Kelly offense. Once graduating, and concluding the team’s mini camp, he was at the 49ers facility working out every day even though he was still unsigned by the team.
Now that the 49ers have all their rookies signed and ready to go, training camp awaits and we’ll be able to see how that offensive line shakes out. I joked with Fooch today that “Winter was coming” meaning that things are going to pick up next week now that the long offseason is over. I’ll be leaving Seattle to go to Boise, Idaho to visit my family so I will have to miss any of the Seahawk praise for a week (oh darn!), but this long boring offseason is almost over and we have football!
Now I just have to hope the 49ers can at least be entertaining!
