The San Francisco 49ers made a surprising roster move on Sunday. A day after placing Ian Williams on the Reserve/NFI list, the team has placed Jaquiski Tartt on the Active/NFI list. Williams is out for the season, but Tartt is on the more traditional list. The team can activate him at any point during training camp. If he is not ready at the end of training camp, they could place him on the Reserve/NFI. They would then have to wait at least six weeks before he could re-join the team on the field.
Chip Kelly met with the media and said Tartt has a quad strain, and should only miss a few days, but obviously we never know how the injury status will develop. But hopefully he’s back practicing later this week. Better to be safe than sorry, and the NFI list gives them some wiggle room in case there are further issues with the injury this week.
