The calendar finally turned to July, which signals the return of 49ers training camp. The players are scheduled to return to the 49ers facility on July 30th. The 49ers will have their 1st training camp with new head coach Chip Kelly and will have their 1st preseason game against the Houston Texans at Levi’s Stadium in August. They open their regular season at home on Monday night football against the newly relocated Los Angeles Rams and their Northern California raised 1st round pick Jared Goff in September.
The expectations for the 49ers are very low this season. After a terrible season last year with Jim Tomsula, the 49ers moved on from Tomsula and went to grab Chip Kelly as their coach. The team is a young group with very few players remaining from their contending years. The unproven players will need to make an immediate impact this season to have any chance of contending for a playoff spot.
This season is big for Chip Kelly. His disastrous exit from the Eagles left him in a position where he will have to prove himself on the NFL level or he may have to go back to the college game. On the Eagles, he was given power to make personnel decisions and that proved to be a disaster. On the 49ers, Trent Baalke makes personnel decisions and that will leave Chip to coach the young players. It could be just what Chip needs, so he can focus solely on using the talents on his team to generate some excitement at Levi's.
