Gerald Hodges to get ILB start Sunday, Ray-Ray Armstrong in preseason Week 3

The 49ers ILB rotation will continue for two more weeks.

The San Francisco 49ers inside linebacker competition continues to have no clear front-runner. Much like the team was rotating snaps between Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick, they have rotated snaps between Michael Wilhoite, Gerald Hodges, and Ray-Ray Armstrong. And it appears it will continue for the next two weeks of the preseason.

Wilhoite got the start against the Houston Texans, but Hodges and Armstrong also got work alongside NaVorro Bowman. On Monday, the coaches met with the media, and they said that Hodges will get the start on Saturday against the Denver Broncos, and Armstrong will get the start in Week 3 against the Green Bay Packers. I would presume at that point a decision will be made.

All three bring something to the table. Wilhoite has solid experience, and a fairly high floor. Hodges arguably has the most upside of the group. And Armstrong has great athleticism, albeit with a lack of discipline. My money has been on Hodges, but the coaches are not giving anything away with their rotation.
