49ers practice recap, Aug 16: Quinton Patton, Bruce Ellington sit out

The San Francisco 49ers short practice session on Tuesday did not reveal a lot, but did give us some notable injury information.

The San Francisco 49ers held a short practice session on Tuesday, running what was essentially a walkthrough. The team departed for the airport shortly after practice, as they will have joint practices with the Denver Broncos on Wednesday and Thursday.

We already knew that Colin Kaepernick did not take part in throwing during the drills. He was involved in running plays, so was at least a partial participant. Two notable absences were wide receivers Quinton Patton and Bruce Ellington. Patton is dealing with a hamstring injury, per Barrows, and took part in individual drills. Ellington is dealing with an ankle issue and did not take part in either.

Curtis Modkins will meet with the media on Wednesday, but I would not expect much of an update on Patton or Ellington. Chip Kelly meets with the media on Thursday, so hopefully he can at least offer something. The 49ers and Broncos will practice Wednesday and Thursday, so at the very least we’ll see if Patton and/or Ellington are available. Jerome Simpson and DeAndrew White handled first team snaps in their place.
