Anthony Davis takes some snaps at right guard in 49ers Thursday practice

The San Francisco 49ers have focused Anthony Davis at right tackle, but now that could be changing.

We’ve had countless discussions in the comments about potentially moving Anthony Davis to guard, and now we have a little more to discuss! During the team’s Thursday practice session, the San Francisco 49ers gave Davis some snaps at right guard in the initial team session. He’s taken four snaps, according to Eric Branch, with Andrew Tiller also getting work there. Davis also worked at second team right tackle.

Earlier this week, Chip Kelly was twice asked if Anthony Davis might move to guard. At the time, Kelly said Davis was focused on learning the right tackle role in Kelly’s offense. It would seem that is changing to some degree. This is a first for Davis. The coaching staff has frequently discussed cross-training, so it could be some simple cross-training work. Of course, one would think that could also happen with another portion of the depth chart.

Offensive line coach Pat Flaherty said on Monday that Joe Staley is the only guaranteed starter among the 49ers offensive linemen. They’ve stuck with the same starting five thus far, but Thursday’s practice marks the first notable change. The question now is what we see when the 49ers take the field on Saturday.
