Golden Nuggets: Colin Kaepernick to miss another preseason game

Friday, August 19, 2016 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from around the Internet.

John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports

Once again, we've got news that Colin Kaepernick won't be playing in a preseason game, which is super disappointing. I was hoping for an actual quarterback battle, but I doubt there will be much he can do with two fewer games than Gabbert at the very worst. Chip Kelly will want to name a starter sooner rather than later and of course, there have always been the whispers that he preferred Gabbert from the start.

We'll never know if those whispers were true or if Kaepernick ever had a chance, but my gut is telling me his time as a starting quarterback, at least for the San Francisco 49ers, is at an end. Plus, look at Saturday's game against the Denver Broncos ... yikes. Gabbert, Jeff Driskel and Christian Ponder on one side, and Trevor Siemian, Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch on the other.

Once again I'm reminded that I would much rather have Sanchez than Gabbert. I'd take Lynch too, of course. Yeesh. Onto the links for the day.
