Monday’s practice was attended by special guests. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was on hand to take in 49ers training camp. She spoke with Chip Kelly and Trent Baalke before practice and joined the team huddle after its conclusion. Also in attendance at practice was agent Drew Rosenhaus. The 1st scuffle of training camp also made an appearance. A minor scuffle broke out between LB Ray Ray Armstrong and TE Busta Andersen

In Monday’s edition of the ongoing QB competition, Colin Kaepernick was the 1st QB starting with the 1st team offense against the 1st team defensive line. In the 2nd half, Blaine worked with the 1st team offense and defense while Colin worked with and against the 2nd unit. Blaine threw a pick-6 to Jimmie Ward when he was looking towards Bruce Ellington. But later in the day, he threw a 40 yard TD to Jerome Simpson. According to reports, Colin was sharp in drill. He was able to make short throws and make quick decisions. He went 8-10 in team drills, but didn’t throw the ball deep downfield.

Along with the solid play of Jimmie Ward on defense, another standout on Monday was last year’s 1st round draft pick, Arik Armstead. He forced a fumble on Carlos Hyde in the defensive backfield and had another stop in the defensive backfield later on. According to Jim O’Neil, the defensive front starters are written in sand and players will have a chance at making a case to start.
