Agents Drew Rosenhaus, Joel Segal on hand for 49ers Monday practice

The San Francisco 49ers have some free agents and other contract situations in play this year. Two agents were on hand for Monday practice, so maybe things are happening.

The San Francisco 49ers second practice of training camp featured a notable name on hand, with former Secretary of State and Stanford Provost Condoleeza Rice checking things out. However, a slightly more important name in the NFL world was also on hand. Agents Drew Rosenhaus was on hand, and ESPN 49ers beat writer Nick Wagoner tweeted that agent Joel Segal was also at Monday’s practice.

Their presence does not mean contracts are going to get done in the near future, but they are still noteworthy. Matt Maiocco mentioned that after NaVorro Bowman finishing up his weight room workout, Rosenhaus accompanied him “upstairs at the 49ers’ main team offices that overlook the practice field.” Bowman is currently signed through the 2018 season, with cap hits of $9,554,000, $8,954,000, and $10,104,000. Cap space is not an issue, but maybe the 49ers want to extend him a little further.

I did a quick search of the 49ers roster, and found that among veterans, Rosenhaus represents Bowman, Anthony Davis, Gerald Hodges, and Ian Williams. Segal represents Glenn Dorsey. I could not find any other names that would potentially be discussing extensions at this point. Hodges and Dorsey are the two most interesting names on that list in terms of contract talks. Both are free agents. Hodges is competing for a starting role next to NaVorro Bowman. Dorsey is returning from a torn ACL, and has a significant opportunity with Ian Williams sidelined.
