We’re back for another week of preseason football. The San Francisco 49ers face the Denver Broncos in a Week 2 matchup. The 49ers traveled to Colorado this week for a pair of joint practices on Wednesday and Thursday. The Broncos got the better of things on Wednesday, while Thursday saw multiple scuffles.
The 49ers will be without quarterback Colin Kaepernick, as he continues resting his arm. Chip Kelly hopes to have him back next week for the Packers game, but he’s said that each week, so let’s not hold our breath. Blaine Gabbert will start, and Jeff Driskel and Christian Ponder will come on after him. They will face Trevor Siemian, Mark Sanchez, and Paxton Lynch.
More importantly for the 49ers quarterbacks, they face a Broncos defense that could be the best in the league this season. They won’t face the starters all game, but Von Miller is expected to play, and should present a valuable challenge to the 49ers offensive line. I’m hoping we see him opposite Trent Brown in the first quarter to provide a challenge.
We’ll be back with game threads later today, and plenty of follow-up after the game. In the meantime, here are some nuts and bolts to get you ready.
