The San Francisco 49ers are on the field warming up before their preseason Week 2 matchup with the Denver Broncos, and Colin Kaepernick is getting some work in. Kaepernick is not playing tonight, but Chip Kelly said the goal is to get him ready for next week so he can play against the Green Bay Packers.
According to media on hand, Kaepernick is taking drop-backs and throwing to trainers and some of his receivers. The throws opened with 10-20 yard passes, and have progressed to 25-yard passes to Bruce Ellington. Eric Branch described them as having some mustard (no specific type of mustard!). Kaepernick later threw some 40- and 55-yard passes to Ellington.
Chip Kelly has said each week the hope is to have Kaepernick for the upcoming game. This will mark Kaepernick’s second straight missed game. The increased throwing would seem to indicate he will be fine for next week, but until we see him in full practice, we’re left in a wait-and-see mode.
