49ers go through fumble drills on Monday

The San Francisco 49ers have had some serious fumble problems the first two games, and they are working to address this in practice. Matt Barrows posted this video showing Tom Rathman and other assistants working the running backs through some basic fumble drills.

The 49ers have had great gains by the running backs, but they have had four fumbles in the first two games. Mike Davis had two on Saturday, and DuJuan Harris fumbled on into the end zone. The previous week, Carlos Hyde had a fumble, and Harris was unable to hold onto a handoff, although the fumble went to quarterback Thad Lewis.

Shaun Draughn sat out Saturday’s game with a rib injury, and was wearing a blue non-contact jersey in practice. Draughn has been viewed as Hyde’s primary backup, but given how Davis and Harris are fumbling the ball, Draughn could further solidify the job without full practices. Davis and Harris will be in the spotlight this Friday against the Green Bay Packers.
