The San Francisco 49ers returned home from Denver and have their 3rd preseason game this Friday against the Green Bay Packers at Levi’s Stadium. Questions have been raised about when Colin Kaepernick would recover from his injury and when he would be able to play a game to make a case for the starting QB position. He was dealing with a ‘dead arm’ and needed to rest to heal.
On Monday, Colin Kaepernick returned to practice and was able to participate fully for the 1st time since August 10th. He was unable to play in the Denver game, but he was able to participate in a passing session before the game. It is looking like he will be able to play against the Packers and he will need to really shine if he has any shot of stopping Blaine Gabbert from securing the starting job.
Blaine Gabbert has taken the most of his opportunity while Colin has been injured. In the 2 preseason games, he has not taken a sack or thrown an interception. It’s likely that the coaching staff will want to make a decision on who is going to be the starter for the Week 1 regular season game after this week’s Packers game. The 4th preseason game is the game where the starters play the least. Colin has a long hill to climb to be the starter and the Green Bay game may be his only opportunity left.
