NFL trade rumors: Browns receiving calls about Josh Gordon

The 49ers were once interested in Josh Gordon. Could that interest resurface?

The Cleveland Browns are welcoming wide receiver Josh Gordon back to the field, but how long he remains in Cleveland remains to be seen. Adam Schefter is reporting the Browns have received calls from teams inquiring about Gordon.

Gordon will be reinstated by the NFL after he serves a 4-game suspension. He can participate in training camp and the preseason, but he will sit the first four games of the season.

The San Francisco 49ers have some history with Josh Gordon trade rumors. In 2014, rumors circulated of a potential deal, but Jimmy Haslam was said to have shut it down. Earlier this year, Adam Schefter reported that Cleveland had backed out of a deal that would have sent Kendall Hunter and a second round pick to the Browns.

The 49ers wide receivers have not had many opportunities this preseason. There are numerous questions about the depth on top of what the 49ers might get out of the passing game. Would it make sense trying to work out a deal for Gordon? There is no denying his talent. The downside is he has the suspension, and could very well end up with a longer suspension if he has further issues. Additionally, the 49ers quarterback position is a pretty big question mark, so can they actually properly utilize him?

And of course the Browns actually have to want to do a deal. My guess is they won't, but it will be something to monitor.
