Blaine Gabbert to start vs. Packers, Colin Kaepernick to come off bench

The 49ers have their quarterback situation figured out for one preseason game. Now we’ll see who gets how many snaps between the two.

The San Francisco 49ers announced Friday afternoon that quarterback Blaine Gabbert will get the start against the Green Bay Packers. They also stated that Colin Kaepernick will make his 2016 debut, which means he will likely be coming off the bench immediately after Gabbert.

There is no clarification on how the snaps will be split up with the first team offense. My guess is both players will get first team work in the first half. If Gabbert ends up getting all the first team work, we will seemingly have an answer as to the team’s starting quarterback for Week 1. But again, I suspect we see both quarterbacks get snaps with the first team offense.

The next question to be answered will be who starts on the offensive line. Anthony Davis and Joshua Garnett both got first team work at right guard and left guard, respectively. Will we see them in the starting lineup against the Packers?

The team announced inactives as well. Wide receivers DeAndre Smelter and Bryce Treggs, linebacker Nick Bellore, and defensive tackles Arik Armstead and Glenn Dorsey will not play. DeForest Buckner is set to play after missing last week’s game with a lower leg muscle injury. Armstead was running sprints before the game, after getting back into practice earlier this week. He has been dealing with a shoulder injury.
