Golden Nuggets: The Pads Came On Tuesday

The 49ers had their 3rd day of training camp on Tuesday. It marked the 1st day that they had a padded practice. The team spent the offseason trying to improve both the offensive and defensive lines. It was mandatory that they improve the line play and reports from the 1st 3 days seem to suggest that the lines should be improved this season.

It looks like Anthony Davis’ return to NFL action is going well. It has not looked like he is coming back from a year off from football. The rookie, Joshua Garnett, has also looked good in practice after signing with the team late. They are currently practicing with the 3rd team, but should move up the depth chart fairly quickly. On Tuesday, Colin Kaepernick had a better day of practice than Blaine Gabbert. Blaine and the offense seemed to have problem picking up blitzes and he had 3 balls batted at the line of scrimmage. But the battle will not be decided in practice, but rather the preseason games according to Chip Kelly.

On defense, the star so far has been 2nd year player Arik Armstead. He has been dominating at the line of scrimmage. His former Oregon teammate, DeForest Buckner, has looked promising on the line. The cornerbacks have played well as a unit. They have shut down the WRs for most of the first 3 days. They will be key for this defense with the NFL continuing to be a passing league.
