Golden Nuggets: Colin To Play, Blaine To Sit Thursday

The controversy sparked by Colin Kaepernick’s action before the Green Bay game continues to circulate across the nation. Hot takes and debates are happening because of that action and they are likely to remain with Colin saying he would continue to sit during the national anthem until he sees some change. This Thursday, Colin and the 49ers head to San Diego for their last preseason.

Chip Kelly announced that Colin Kaepernick would play against the San Diego Chargers on Thursday and that Blaine Gabbert would not. Blaine has played in 3 preseason games and unless something dramatic happens in Colin’s play on Thursday, Blaine will start Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams. Colin has only had 13 snaps in the preseason and the coaching staff wants to see how he performs. They have a big decision regarding Colin’s spot on the roster and this new controversy shines more light on that decision.

Bruce Ellington, who was the the top slot receiver and return man for the team, is out for the season. He sustained a hamstring injury on Friday and was placed on season ending injury reserve Tuesday. He was expected to produce in Chip’s offense, but that will not happen this season. The addition of Jeremy Kerley somewhat softens the blow, but for another year, the 49ers receiver corp is a weak spot.
