Eric Rogers tore ACL, out for season

The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver competition lost a notable figure to injury. Chip Kelly announced that Eric Rogers suffered a torn ACL in practice on Thursday and is out for the year. He walked off the field after his injury, and told Eric Branch he wasn't sure what to make of it. Unfortunately it is bad news. He will be placed on injured reserve.

Rogers got a sizable chunk of guaranteed money and had the kind of size Kelly covets. His loss stings in the sense of potential more than what we knew he would do this season.

The injury narrows the WR competition by one player who was probably going to make the 53-man roster. It could open the door for a DeAndrew White, Dres Anderson, or DiAndre Campbell, among others. Aaron Burbridge and Jerome Simpson are guys with serious opportunities already, and it further pushes them up the depth chart.
