Kate Scott to do radio play-by-play for 49ers first two preseason games

The San Francisco 49ers first two preseason games will feature a new voice handling play-by-play on radio. KNBR anchor Kate Scott will be doing the job for the 49ers preseason games against the Houston Texans and Denver Broncos. Normally, Bob Fitzgerald handles play-by-play on the radio. However, Ted Robinson, who normally handles TV play-by-play for preseason games, is in Brazil for the Rio Olympics these first two games. Fitzgerald is getting the bump up to TV, and Scott is getting the bump up to radio play-by-play.

The link above is to Bay Area Sports Guy’s report on the news. He follows Bay Area radio as closely as anybody, and provided a rundown on some of her experience:

Scott went from anchoring on two shows (Murph and Mac, Gary Radnich with Larry Krueger) to one (M&M) on KNBR when she took a job with the Pac-12 Network, where she’s done play-by-play for women’s basketball, softball, soccer and volleyball. In the past she served as a play-by-play announcer for high school football games, too.

I don’t listen to a ton of radio, but Kate’s a strong voice on KNBR, and it’s great to see her get a chance to gain some huge experience. Last year, Keena Turner handled color commentary for the 49ers preseason radio broadcasts, while Tim Ryan handled preseason TV color commentary. BASG thinks Turner is likely to stay in his role.
