Who is eligible for the practice squad on the 49ers roster?

New, comments

It’s time to start pondering the practice squad

The San Francisco 49ers have one last preseason game to get through, but then, they will settle on the 53-man roster by Saturday, and then fill some or all of their 10-man practice squad on Sunday.

We’ll take another look at eligible practice squad players after cuts, but heading into the final preseason game, I thought I would put together a list of every eligible player still on the roster. The NFL and NFLPA extended a rule change that allows players with two accrued seasons to be eligible for the practice squad. That makes a sizable number of players eligible that otherwise would not. For example, guys like Jimmie Ward, Carlos Hyde, Aaron Lynch and other 2014 draft picks, are technically eligible. Obviously they won’t be on the squad, but I’ll leave them in for now. Once we get through roster cuts, the list will change with all the 53-man roster players removed.
