Report: 49ers work out second ex-Patriots wide receiver in four days

The 49ers are looking at some ex-Patriots wide receivers for potential depth

The San Francisco 49ers are off to a 1-0 start, but there is room for improvement. The team is looking to add depth on offense, and has now brought in two former New England Patriots wide receivers over the last four days. Matt Maiocco is reporting the team worked out Aaron Dobson on Tuesday. Over the weekend, Field Yates reported the team met with wide receiver Keshawn Martin. The team eventually promoted wide receiver Chris Harper on Monday, which would seem to suggest Martin is off the radar for the time being.

Dobson worked out for the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the week, and now has this 49ers workout in the books. Maiocco is reporting a signing is not imminent. In light of the 49ers decision to re-sign DuJuan Harris, it is certainly possible Dobson could be on their radar later this weekend if they make the roster switch with Harris.

Dobson was a second round pick of the Patriots back in 2013. He played in 12 games as a rookie, finishing the season with 37 receptions for 519 yards and four touchdowns. He was a regular inactive in 2014, playing in four games and suffering multiple injuries that year and through 2015. Over the 2014 and 2015 seasons, he played in a combined 12 games, and had 16 receptions for 179 yards.
