After Week 1 in the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers lead the NFC West after a dominating win over the LA Rams. They pitched a shutout, winning 28-0 led by 2 TDs from Carlos Hyde. The 49ers will now focus on getting ready for a short week as they fly to take on the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. They will look to avoid a repeat of last season when they won a season opening Monday game against the Vikings and then were thrashed 43-18 on the road at Pittsburgh the following game.

The 49ers offense was hit and miss during the game. The positives were that they were 4 for 4 in the red zone and the offensive line dominated a normally good Rams defensive line. The line allowed no sacks, last season they gave up 53 sacks. Blaine Gabbert got away with some throws that could have been picked, but he hit on some plays with both his arm and legs. Carlos Hyde ran well while scoring 2 TDs and newcomer Jeremy Kerley quickly became Blaine’s favorite target. Next game will provide a good test going up against Luke Kuechly and company.

The defense was buzzing on the field Monday. They held Todd Gurley to 47 yards on the night. The whole defense played well. The defensive line dominated the Rams offensive line. NaVorro Bowman led the team in tackles with 9 and his running mate, Ray Ray Armstrong, both had interceptions and pass breakups. Tramaine Brock and Jimmie Ward allowed nothing for the passing game. They will look to take that defense against last year’s MVP Cam Newton.
