Golden Nuggets: Fred Quillan passes away

New, comments

San Francisco 49ers links for Friday, September 16, 2016.

Good morning 49ers fans. A bit of sad news was passed along on Thursday. Former San Francisco 49ers center Fred Quillan passed away on Monday, at the age of 60. The Oregon product joined the team as a seventh round draft pick in 1978, and played ten seasons with the franchise, including the 1981 and 1984 Super Bowl years He appeared in 143 games, starting 129, along with 11 career playoff games (10 starts). He was named to consecutive Pro Bowls in 1984 and 1985. Condolences to his family.

The 49ers wrapped up their open practices on Thursday, with Chip Kelly meeting with the media. The team will practice Friday, travel to Charlotte, get in a practice on Saturday, and then face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. That’s certainly going to be a stiff challenge, and will tell us more about where this team stands after their thumping of the Los Angeles Rams.

Fortunately, the injury report is fairly light for the time being, so we’ll see a team heading into Carolina that is pretty close to full strength. This will change as the season moves along, but having most of the roster available for Sunday will hopefully give us a slightly better idea of where things stand. Even on the short week.

On to the links!
